Matthew Phipps
Is the owner and director of MAK Power. Matthew completed his electrical apprenticeship with EGT (Electrical Group Training) in 2009. Through his apprenticeship, Matthew was exposed to the many different sectors/areas within the electrical field, by way of how the group training scheme operated. As a result of the various placements, across many different electrical companies, Matthew’s knowledge base expanded. As he showed a genuine interest in the trade, those that he worked with, shared and passed on their knowledge and skills.
Upon becoming a tradesman, Matt worked away on multiple mining projects during their construction phases. After one particular stint, he decided that he would start his own electrical business. From then, he has never looked back and as an owner operator, he has completed further studies relevant to the trade while also learning the various dynamics needed to successfully run his own business. He has been involved in the electrical industry for close to 14 years.
After running his own business, from such a young age, Matt has accomplished many things within the industry and in life in general. He has a wealth of knowledge and has great resolve to stay atop of the ever changing face of the industry.
Ken Van Der Putten
Is the general Manager at MAK Power. Ken has been in the Electrical industry for 21 years. He completed his apprenticeship with O’Donnell Griffin, this set the foundations for the successful career to date in the many different areas of the electrical industry that Ken works in.
Kens skills and experience include Project Management, Site Contractor Supervision, Contract Management, Training and Assessment, Inspection, Testing and Commissioning and Safety & Quality Management. Ken has been working extensively in the mining and industrial sectors on numerous Projects for the last 10 years. Prior to this Ken worked extensively on Sports oval lighting and area lighting in public areas. Ken brings a wide range of skills and experience to MAK Power.
Steve Smith
Is the assistant manager at MAK Power. Steve has been involved in the electrical industry for well over 20 years. He served his time with Everett Smith & Co. and stayed on with them as a tradesman for around 14 years. As such, he was fortunate enough to work on some of the biggest commercial projects in WA, in that time. He undertook further studies within the electrical field during this time.
Of more recent times, Steve completed his postgraduate diploma in business studies and was given an opportunity in a higher management role with AB Tilbury Pty Ltd. Steve’s role there was to assist the managing directors in the daily operations of the company, allowing them more time to focus on the business and tendering on jobs.
At MAK Power Steve has brought his both industry and managerial experience to assist Matt with the running of the company. Steve often acts as Matt’s sounding board and vice versa. They both compliment one another with their own skill-sets that they possess.
